The numbers are in and it’s official, Frank Ocean’s “channel Orange” has shattered first week sales expectations with 131,000 copies sold.Originally expected to sell 40,000-45,000 copies in it’s first week, the final numbers are very impressive especially when you consider in how the sales came about. The album debuts at #2 on the Billboard charts this week as Zac Brown Band took #1 with 234,000 sold.
128,000 of the 131,000 came solely from iTunes sales because of the albums early release with only 3,000 coming from physical sales. Retailers were instructed to sell the album as soon as they had it causing a few thousand to be sold before yesterday’s official release (July 17).
channel ORANGE outsold Usher’s “Looking 4 Myself” album debut haul and is just shy of the 135,000 that Chris Brown’s “Fortune” debuted with last week.
Thanks to all the fans who copped the album so far, it’s all thanks to you!
